For ages, cotton was merely seen as cotton. What mattered more was the thread count when it came to picking out top quality sheets. This is hardly the case anymore. When it comes to the ultimate guideline to purchasing bedding, Egyptian cotton is noted to be the most superior kind of cotton in the world today. Is there really any truth to this? And if so, does it really make that much of a difference?
Egyptian cotton is used to produce various kinds of bedding, from comforters to pillow cases to bed sheets. The long fiber or long staple of cotton that is grown in Egypt means that a lot of continuous fiber is more available for use when it comes to producing yarns or threads. Such yarn tends to be much smaller in terms of diameter yet sturdier compared to other cottons. Having smaller yarn simply means that there are more threads available per every square inch that is used to produce sturdier fabric that is both light-weight and can be breathed through.
Having more thread in every inch simply means that the overall thread count within the label of the bedding is going to be higher. A lot of buyers seem to think that opting for sheets with a high amount in thread count is the sole way of gauging its quality, which is very far from the truth. When it comes to cotton that is grown inside of Egypt, if the thread count is higher, it simply means that the fabric is probably extremely sturdy and capable of lasting for years on end. If taken care of the right way, Egyptian cotton that is used to produce bedding products has the capability of lasting for decades.
When bedding is newly purchased, Egyptian cotton-made sheets tend to be a little bit harder compared to other cottons. Egyptian cotton is great, but I actually prefer bamboo fabric sheets. They become softer with wear and washing, and are a very renewable resource, sine bamboo grows so fast!
